What is the difference between a Pretty Girl and a Model?

by pazza

So now that the media world has become much more public, I find that there are a lot of girls who say they want to become professional models. We’ve watched reality shows where modeling profession has been showcased, images of catwalks are in every magazine describing new season’s trends, and it really brings the possibility of being included in the world of fashion closer. It is an exciting life, why can’t you be a part of it?

Let’s start off my saying that even for photo modeling, agency professionals are looking for girls who are 5’8 or taller, catwalk standards are usually 5’9 or 6’0. I have already mentioned it before, but a for a model to have a moldable look is the top priority, this means looking almost like a different person in distinct scenarios – the ability to pull off the girl next door, glam diva, or 40s factory worker. The final criteria is quoted most often and is the most confusing of them all – you have to be photogenic. Well, what does that really mean? Being photogenic is hard to describe really, but what it pertains to is that your face looks good in unusual or unflattering lighting conditions. It means your face can take on harsh lighting, difficult or obscure angles and your facial structure does not get distorted. Harsh standards, huh?

But what if even though you fall short on the criteria, your heart is still set on modeling, then what do you do? The answer is – take a shot at it. Fashion world seems really glamorous, but you really don’t know what goes into making a picture until you have experienced it yourself. Besides, I think every girl should have some professionally done photos that capture her essence and tell the story of her singular beauty. So work with a professional photographer, get your picture taken, enjoy the experience, if nothing works out, at least you will have some great photos to share with your friends.
